I did this with my laptop, because I’m dumb and wanted to see what happens. Basically it immediately stopped what it was doing and the screen went funky. Like, pixels on the screen were every colour possible but each one was different. A bit like this
Laptop survived or not?
it did! I unplugged the laptop and popped the RAM card back in and it worked fine again. I speak in past tense now because that laptop is currently in pieces over my bedroom floor :^)
So yes it survived, but I would NOT recommend you try this unless it’s an old computer that you’re going to get rid of soon anyway. The one I used was 2007 era. newer computers might be different on the internals and could react differently to having the RAM removed. If you ever do want to try this, use anti-static gloves. I don’t recommend it though.
